KinkyKent Java Chat

Java Chat is an easier to use way to chat in the KK Chat room. When you click 'Chat Now' on the links on the left of each page, this will load up a java applet to run on your PC. This connects to the chat room for you and allows you to chat.

The following guide will take you through a number of steps to get you up and chatting.

Click on Chat Now After a while (the length of time depends on how quick/busy your internet connection is) you should see the chat room page. The 'chat' is in the big area on the left hand side. The list of names (or 'nicks') is down the right hand side.

The nickname you have chosen might be in use. In this case your nick will be changed to 'Anonxxxx' e.g. Anon8627. If the nickname is registered, you might be allowed to use it for 1 minute before it changes to 'Guestxxxxx'. If either of these happens, just change your nick.

To change your nickname or 'nick', type in '/nick xxxxxxxxxx' in the box below the chat. Replace the xxxxxxxxx with the nickname you want to use.

Alot of the more common nicknames will have been already used so please try to think up an original name for yourself. No spaces are allowed and certain other characters, but the letters a to z and numbers 0 to 9 and other characters like ^ _ - are allowed. If you choose a name that is already in use you will be asked to enter another. If you choose a name that somebody has reserved, you will be asked to change, and if you don't, your nick will automatically change.

See also the Main Chat help page.

Other use Tricks/Commands

Use a nickname rather than your real name.

Some people take offence at being sent private messages without being asked first in the main room, so its always polite to ask.

Some things you may want to say will read better as an action, rather than a statement, e.g.

<Capt> hugs dizzy
or
Capt hugs dizzy

Normal text will appear as the first line. To make text appear the second way, type in /action hugs dizzy

To change your nick to something else, say 'DirtyRat' type in /nick DirtyRat If nothing happens it means either you did something wrong, or somebody else already is using that nick name, so try again. If NickServ asks for a password, then somebody else owns the name.

If you have been asked for a password by NickServ, and you dont enter the correct one, your nick may be changed to Guest8751 (or similiar) after 60 seconds. This is to stop people masquerading as each other.

I get a grey square, with a little red X (Applet not inited) Why?

There are 2 possibilities:

One is because you don't have Java installed.

Ever since Sun beat MS in court over copyright issues regarding Java, MS have had to abandon Java. As a result they no longer ship Java with any of their operating systems, favouring .NET instead.

To remedy this, all you need to do is go to Sun's Java website @ http://java.sun.com and download their latest installer.

The other is:

On some networks, they use the policy "make proxy settings per machine (rather than per user)" for Internet Explorer. It seems that the current user proxy settings which may still be present in the registry causes a problem.

Fix:

Changing ProxyEnable in the registry to 0 should solve your problem.

Edit this setting using regedit:

hkcu\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings\proxyenable

This is not a PJirc bug...
